The Guard:

Is an Irish crime comedy about two policeman who join forces to take on an international drug smuggling gang. One cop is the movie's main character, Sergeant Jerry Boyle who enjoys irritating, offending people and has a confrontational personality but is bit of a maverick and holds a sense of duty. His performance dominates the film, he play's the part with ease and a sense of style that is unique. The other cop is Wendell Everett a straitlaced FBI agent from America, his character is very slick, efficient and polished. His relationship with Boyle is one which constantly switches from confusion to frustration, then back to confusion, the two cops contrast each other well.

The script goes and deals with xenophobia, bigotry and race, all touchy subjects,the film is pushing the boundaries of what is funny but I think it pulls it off!!!. However, some actors have some truly unforgettable lines or wisecracks like Jerry Boyle "I thought only black lads were drugs dealers”: “I’m Irish; racism is part of my culture” but Boyles character, is an intelligent man. Along the way, the duo encounter multiple murders, and a dysfunctional police force, strange Irish folk who don't speak English.

Lian Cunningams plays Francis Sheehy,who is clearly the brains behind the operation. Sheehy leave's the dirty work for his merry men who come across as sociopathic/druggie's. One of these merry men is Liam O 'Leary who is hilarious and psychotic. O'Leary plays the highly competent David Wilmot, he provides some of the most dramatic scenes in the film and at one point he walks into Boyle's house and hold's him at gun point, Boyle hold's on the conversation, then start's scratching his groin, complaining he must have caught something from girls in Dublin all the time stalling Wilmot. Finally the scene ends in Boyle pulling a gun out of his trouser's and shooting Wilmot, patronizing him in his dying moments.

Amsterdam, what a great place to visit. Seems like such a different society from like anything else I have experienced or maybe not. One of the main differences is the whole place is run on bikes, not to mention every other form of transport trams, boats, cars, bikes. Its hectic walking around on the main streets, it does have some mellow streets to walk down which are next to the canals.
So bizarre being a country where you can smoke pot ! its seems to work. Seems like a happier place for it, even all the children run around singing in this town.

I had been living in Milford / Castor Bay over summer. It was great living by the beach, unfortunately the shore does not offer any culture its mainly kids and old folks. Great to have this as your backyard, I have never had summer in which I swam so much, not mention I haven't worked over summer so I got to enjoy being free for once... JC
